Hamilton County Felony Veteran Treatment Court helps vets out of addiction, homelessness

Elena Bishop, a veteran of the United States Navy, was the victim of a violent abduction and rape in 2010. Shortly after this incident, Bishop had a drug related run in with the police. Judge Ethna Cooper offered Bishop the ability to participate in the Hamilton County Vet Court. This alternative to prison allowed Bishop to get clean and, after graduation from the program, allowed her to undergo the expungement process.

Bishop is one of 64 successful graduates of the Hamilton County Veterans Court since its beginnings in 2011.
